I see "SM" or "SESAMY" on my bank statement — what is it?

A charge from SM, SM- or SESAMY on your bank or credit card statement is a subscription payment processed by Sesamy.

Sesamy is a subscription management platform used by newspapers, magazines and other publishers. We process payments on their behalf — so the charge on your statement is for a subscription you have with one of our publishers.

How to read the charge

Your statement will show one of these formats:

  • SM 4821 aftonposten — Your customer ID (4821) and the publisher name

  • SM-aftonposten — The publisher name without a customer ID

  • SESAMY — A payment processed by Sesamy (publisher name not shown)

These are examples. The publisher name on your statement will match the service you subscribed to. The name may be shortened to fit — for example, SM 4821 goteborgspos would be a payment to Göteborgs-Posten.

I don't recognise this charge

If you don't remember signing up, it is most likely a subscription that is still active. Subscriptions renew automatically until cancelled — even if you've stopped using the service.

How to find out which subscription it is

  1. Check the publisher name in the statement description (the text after "SM" or "SM-")

  2. Search your email for a confirmation or welcome email from that publisher

  3. Note the amount charged — it can help identify which subscription plan it belongs to

How to cancel

If you want to cancel your subscription, follow the steps in our cancellation guide.
